Legal campaign against badger cull refused

On Tuesday Queen star's Save Me group, which campaign against the badger cull which is place in the UK, launched a legal challenge at the High Court, asking for a immediate halt to culling.

The court refused to give it urgent consideration, saying it was "not easy to see" why there was such urgency of the matter

Save Me had claimed an urgent review was needed because an extension to the cull was already in operation and the period of the extension might elapse before a formal review could be applied.

In just gone October , Natural England granted an eight-week extension to the cull after fewer animals than the original target were killed in the initial six weeks.

The application might have had a different result if it had been made immediately after the granting of the license, he added.

Ministers and the NFU believe culling badgers will curb TB in cattle, but protesters say it has very little effect on the spread of TB in cattle and other animals.

The eight-week extension to the cull is due to end on 18 December.

japan's nuclear rods to go

Workers at Japan's terrible incident of the Fukushima nuclear plant have begun removing fuel rods from a storage pond at the Unit 4 reactor building.

It will take about two days to remove the first 22 fuel rod assemblies, theplant operator Tepco says. Overall, more than 1,450 assemblies have to be removed in what correspondents describe as a risky and dangerous operation set to take a year.

English seas get new marine conservation zones

The MCZs will help many places where grow coral reefs and oyster beds to remain safe from dredging and trawling. The Marine Conservation Society accepted the "significant milestone" but it warned there were still fewer than a quarter of the number of MCZs recommended by scientists to complete an "ecologically coherent" network.

Last year a two-year £8 million consultation involving the government's own science advisers recommended the creation of 127 MCZs to halt the rapid decline of  lobsters, oysters and seahorses. But earlier this year, ministers announced plans to construct just around 30 zones aimed at protecting marine life on the ocean floor.

Campaigners described the plan as "pitiful" and a "bitter disappointment" - but the then environment minister Richard Benyon insisted that the scientific evidence for a large proportion of the zones was "just not up to scratch".

Poland "Coal Land"

Environmental groups have been sharply criticised the Polish government for hosting a coal industry meeting while UN climate talks are held in Poland.

They are very angry due to the fact they believe that Poland is more dedicated to coal than curbing climate change. The Polish government announced that coal will remain a main part of their energy mix for many decades. But they say they are committed to developing cleaner types of energy.

The World Coal Association believes that coal is an important part of the energy mix right now and is growing in many parts of the world. They say that coal accounts for 41% of the world's electricity and in 20 years' time is still expected to be providing a quarter of the world's primary energy which was the same level it was at in 1980.

Poland is invested heavily and deep in clean coal technology and the coal meeting has the open approval of the government as it is being held at Poland's the Ministry of the Economy.

China cracks down on emissions

Cities should close schools, cut working hours and stop outdoor activities during the most severe spells of air pollution, the ministry of environmental protection has said.

"Every possible compulsory measure" must be taken to cut emissions during the worst smog – including imposing traffic restrictions.

The ministry's guidelines, issued in a circular, come as China tackles with frequent choking smog in its big cities.Primary and middle schools suspended classes last month in the north-east city of Harbin during a smog emergency. The airport and several bus routes were also closed.

Third week of november

This week is very different because this week you have two short and easy Eco tips

Water

Did you know that each time we overfill the kettle we waste enough energy to run a TV for over 24 hours? Check the water level in the kettle and only use as much as you need.

 Shut it

Avoid leaving fridge doors open. Each minute the door is open uses three minutes of energy to cool down again.

reasons to stop badger cull in england

When people think about the British wildlife they think about foxes, squirrels and .... badgers. But soon that will change real soon if you allow British farmers to kill badgers

Eleven thousand badgers have already been killed as a trial to see if it will help reduce bovine TB and the trial concluded that, at best, there would be a 16 per cent reduction in the spread of the disease.

The cost of culling badgers is even more expensive than vaccinating them. Using government figures, it costs more to cull and police a cull like this than it does to cage, trap and vaccinate, also the amount of people need to help wounded and half-dead badgersuch as those out on wounded badger patrols, who would no doubt be willing to train to do this.

As culling cannot be selective many perfectly healthy badgers will be slaughtered in fact, as many as 6 out of 7 badgers killed could be TB free.

second week of november tip

Pay Bills Online

Save natural resources -- as well as late fees -- by enrolling in online bill-paying options. Paperless billing not only saves trees, it also eliminates the fossil fuel needed to get all those billing envelopes from them to you and back again. Plus, you'll save money on stamps.

The shrinking sea

In recent years, the Dead Sea has been shrinking rapidly because of diversion of  water coming from the Jordan River to the north. The southern end is fed by a canal maintained by the Dead Sea Works, a company that converts the sea's raw materials.

From a depression of 395 m below sea level in 1970 It fell by 22 m (72 ft) to 418 m (1,371 ft) below sea level in 2006, reaching a drop rate of 1 m (3 ft) per year. As the water level decreases, the characteristics of the Sea, surrounding region and local wildlife may substantially change as consequence

November's Theme

Hi readers, As it is the start of the month. The blog's Theme changes as well just like the months. It starting to get cold so we are starting to turn on our central heating and warming up our cars. So that must not be good for the environment, but we compensate for it by following these green tips.My tips will help you save money and energy
This November's theme is energy usage

As I have said it starting to get cold so we have to put on the central heating but putting on should not cost you money. So because of that reason this week tip is...

1.  Set your thermostat wisely.

In most homes there is a programmable thermostats and if you don't have one, it would be well worth it to buy one. There is no reason to heat or cool your house when everybody is at work or school. There is no reason to have the house at the same temperature that you want it when you are home.
