St Jude's storm whips across northern Europe
The St Jude's storm that battered southern Britain on Monday morning has hit
northern Europe .Record gusts of 119mph were measured in the North Sea. In Germany, two people died when their car was crushed by a falling tree, and
in western France, at Belle-Ile in Brittany a
woman was swept into the sea from a cliff.
Power cuts hit 42,000 homes in northern France, and the motorways across
Belgium have been closed.Many trains were cancelled in and around London also in north-western Germany.
